Social media crisis can be damaging to a company if the wrong portrayal of the company has gone viral. However there are those times when a company can make a bold statement and instead of facing heavy backlash the company's business can begin to flourish for a short period of time. For example on June 16th, 2012 Chick-fil-a's Dan Cathy made an statement opposing same-sex marriage and instead of losing business or newsfeed full of negative statements, supporters lined up and waited in line for hours to order food to support their agreeance with Chick-fil-a. The company even kept it's doors open on that following sunday(typically closed on sundays) giving the company widespread media coverage. The only backlash the company faced was the loss of many LGBT customers, Jim Henson (toys in kids meals), and many college and university students protesting that the chain be removed from their schools.
Dan Cathy's statement
"I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage'. I pray God's mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think
that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about.
